BOY WHO SUFFERED A MAJOR EYE INJURY GETS HELP

It’s almost three months now since I shared his story with you all. And the past three months has recorded an enormous recovery for Chibuike.

Remember the kid who had a distressing eye condition which resulted from particles of bottles which splashed into his eyes while he was running an errand, yeah that’s him! click here to read

So after removal of the bottles particles in Chibuike’s left eye, doctors reported that the injury left a major scar which may not permit it to function as the right eye.

At first, one of the doctors opined that the injured left eye would have to be removed, so that the uninjured right eye does not end up sympathizing with it, resulting in a damage of both eyes, but after a major SCAN and further consultations, Dr. said removal will not be necessary.

So we were recommended to buy a series of prescribed drugs, and a combination of various eye drops back to back which were administered almost TEN times a day. These drugs were not meant to be stopped or run out, We used four eye different eye drops at first, then after a month, reduced it to three, as it improved we now resorted to two major eye drops which were even difficult to find in pharmacies, but thank God at some point we began to preorder.

They helped a great deal, plus constant doctors check.

We visit the hospital twice weekly,  because of my job I couldn’t make it some of the weekly appointments, but I made his elder sister stand-in for me by making sure she takes him for the doctors' appointment, and I followed up with calls while they were there.

Sometimes I’ll take excuse from the office and dash out to join them, although the distance was quite far for me.

The prescribed drugs helped too, we also used a special EYE SOAP for him and got him a pair of prescribed glasses.

The elder sister who was assisting in taking him to the hospital on my behalf had dropped out of secondary school because of school fees issues, so part of the charity was used to pay her fees and return her to school. Now she’s a student again. And Chibuike as well, has also returned back to school with his protective glasses to aid his studies!

His recovery was also slow as a result of the inconsistency with his drugs and eye drops, plus he likes rough play too, lol.., (which is not good for his eye condition). Some days he fails to put the eye drops and take his drugs, I’ll have to always call his sister and his mom to remind them and ensure that they put the drops; as the dosage was hourly, sometimes three hourly in a day.

But they missed putting it some days, so instead of getting better, it’ll revert. Sadly!

The doctor even complained, and I wasn’t happy, considering that we had spent so much money but had little result/improvement. So what I could do was constant CALLING, and follow up, since of course, I don’t live in their house, neither do I live close to them. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have minded administering the dozes myself.

But thank God, he’s getting better now.

For the past three months, it’s been from one medical appointment to the other, in weeks and days, the follow up has been back to back, but thank God as at yesterday (March 25), his eyes had improved from having the reddish bloody component to becoming completely white, and he no longer feels pains in the eyes - according to the doctors' remarks.

So we were scheduled for an appointment with the doctor in a month’s time. To continue with our routine of administering drugs and eye drops.

I was so happy at the doctors' report when we spoke yesterday. Initially, the improvement was slow because of the weight of the damage done, but now I’m seeing results and I’m feeling fulfilled.

Thanks to all of you who supported, If not for your support, it would have been past tense.

Thank you so much! Chibuike says THANK YOU!!!
